In Georgia, the driver on the right has the right-of-way at a four-way stop. If a driver approaches an intersection with no stop sign or traffic signal, they should yield to other drivers, whether they are on the right or left. The same rules apply when two drivers approach an intersection with a malfunctioning traffic signal, treat it like a four-way stop. If you have more questions about driving don’t be afraid to contact A-1 Driving Schools with all your questions.

Is 5mph Over Enough to Get a Ticket?
Speeding can be dangerous as it increases the time it takes you to react and brake if the vehicles in front of you suddenly stop. The Colorado State Patrol wants to give citations our for driving 5mph over the speed limit, and their reasons why are interesting. A good rule of thumb is to maintain one car length per 10 mph traveled. When driving at a speed of 55 mph, it is recommended to maintain a distance of at least five car lengths from the vehicle in front of you. According to the Colorado State Patrol, 685 of the 2,860 fatal and injury-causing accidents investigated last year were caused by speeding. It is important to note that exceeding the posted speed limit is considered speeding and could lead to a citation.
Although this does seem like a strict idea, it seems to be very beneficial. This would greatly reduce speeding, but unfortunately will most likely increase the number of people that will be getting citations for speeding. Do you think this is too strict, or is it the right way to go about speed when it comes to the road?

Bill in California Capping 10mph Over Speed Limit
The new bill the California legislature is considering mandates a speed limiting device in your vehicle capping the speed at 10mph over the speed limit. We believe this law would greatly reduce the amount of fines paid by speeding, and the amount of jail time served over speeding, and most importantly we think is would decrease crashes. There are some downsides to this bill. It would take a long amount of time to put this speed limiting device into cars, and you would most likely have to pay for, which some people might not be able to afford. Do you think this law is good or bad, and were your opinions any different than ours? Also do you think it should be implemented on Georgia road?
71-year-old man Charged with DUI
Micheal Pledger Turner, a 71 year old Georgia resident was charged with DUI. The police talked to him during a traffic stop, and that is when they noticed the signs of impairment. Turner was charged with DUI for alcohol, failure to stop at a railroad crossing signal, open container of alcohol and driving on suspended or revoked license.
No matter what age you are, you can still get a DUI. Although 21-24 years show the highest rate of DUI’s, DUIs do not discriminate. Everyone can get a DUI, but that doesn’t mean everyone should. We should all try and reduce the risk of DUI’s, wether it’s calling an Uber, not drinking at all, or even taking DUI school. If your choice is to take DUI school, A-1 Driving Schools is here to help with our online and in-person DUI School.
How to Drive Across Train Tracks
Do you know how to drive across train tracks? It’s easy just a few simple steps, and here they are.
- Stop, look both ways and listen. Know that trains always have the right of way.
- Don’t stop on the tracks. Make sure you have room to get across. Once you enter the crossing, keep moving.
- Stop 15 feet away from flashing red lights, lowered gates, a signaling flagman or a stop sign.
- Never drive around a lowering gate or ignore signals.
- After a train passes, wait for gates to fully rise and for all lights to stop flashing before your cross.
- Never assume that there is only one train coming from a single direction.
- If your car stalls on a track, quickly get everyone out — even if you don’t see a train coming. Run away from the tracks and your car to avoid being hit by flying debris. Call the number on the blue emergency notification system sign. If the sign is not visible to you, call 911.

What do you do if a School Bus has Stopped with Lights and a Stop Sign?
How do you drive if a bus puts out its stop signs? Well, heres how you do it…
- You must stop for a school bus whenever the driver signals a stop with the flashing lights and the stop sign.
- Treat this as a regular stop sign.
- Once the lights have stopped flashing and the stop sign is no longer out, you are free to drive.
- The only time you may continue moving is when there is a median separating your lane of traffic from the bus.

Young Boy Hit Getting off of The Bus
Tiffany Zembower was driving 40-45 mph and did not slow for the stopped bus which resulted in the collision of her 2003 Toyota Tacoma and the little boy. He was identified by a family member as Yonis Rodriguez. The impact from Tiffany Zembower’s car knocked the boy approximately 7 feet. He was left with severe trauma to his head, internal bleeding, and several broken bones. Tiffany was completely unharmed. The bus driver told police she saw the approaching vehicle as the child began to cross the street and tried warning him by flashing her lights and honking the horn, but it was too late. The cops later found that she had 5 mini alcohol bottles in her possession. A judge set Zembower’s bail at $25,000 with release conditions that she does not drive, consume alcohol, and wear a monitoring device. She will be back in court on Feb. 2.
We pray for Yonis’s family as their child heals from this nightmare. We hope that he recovers as swiftly and as smoothly as possible.
