What is the Move-Over Law?

Here is exactly what to do what approaching a stationary vehicle, and what to do when approaching a parked emergency vehicle!

  1. When approaching a parked emergency vehicle flashing yellow, amber, white, red, or blue lights, drivers should slow down and move over a lane if possible. If that’s not feasible, they should drive at a speed that is safe for the road and traffic conditions, which is less than the posted speed limit.
  2. Approach stationary emergency vehicles with caution. Change lanes if possible, or slow down to a safe and reasonable speed that is below the posted speed limit. Violators will be fined up to $500.
